Mountains and More Mountains, on Tahiti and Moorea.

December 23, 2007

These mountains are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire; volcanic mountains that have been dormant for centuries and (naturally[for me anyway]) elicit an “energy,” a “presence” far greater than non volcanic ones.

En route up the mountain from one side of Tahiti to the other, looking down at the “road” from whence we had just come. From this vantage point it resembled a road, which is a little deceptive, because from inside the 4 x 4 it looked like an irregular line on a map.

After going through a tunnel we headed down again. While still at a fairly high altitude (5,000ft) we encountered intermittent rain; for a change.

These mountains on the island of Moorea seem to be more angular than those on Tahiti.
