John Baldessari Pure Beauty at the METROPOLITAN MUSEUM Part II

November 6, 2010

James Kalm battles Manhattan’s morning traffic and peddles ten miles to the Met for the press preview of “Pure Beauty” a major retrospective of John Baldessari. Giving up painting to explore photo and text based conceptual work in the mid sixties, Baldessari has become one of the most influential artists of the past twenty-five years. This, the second of a two part video, features excerpts of an extended Q&A session dealing with his relation to and the influence of Marcel Duchamp and John Cage, and his views of California and its art. Viewers glance at his most emblematic late works, large scaled photo, painting and text pieces.
